In the wild, reptiles utilize the sun's UVB rays to synthesis Vitamin D3 in their bodies. Reptiles must have Vitamin D3 present to process the calcium in their diets. Without Vitamin D3 the calcium in the diet cannot be absorbed into the blood stream, and simply passes through the system unused.
A reptiles need for UVB, Vitamin D3 and calcium absorption does not change because it lives in captivity, in fact, a lot of captive bred reptiles are purchased as juveniles, when the need for calcium absorption (for strong bones and growth) is at it's highest.
The following tubes must be fitted in such a way that your reptile can sit within a distance of approx. 12”. It is advisable to change tubes at least yearly. |
